XIII (pronounced "Thirteen") are a Heavy/Thrash Metal band hailing from the great city of Hull. Starting out in the spring of 2007 by vocalist/guitarist Dan Murray and another guitarist, James Oxtoby, bass player in Dan's previous band was added to the line up to fill the same role. Eventually the need arose for a drummer and then rookie, now maestro, drummer Alex O'Dwyer filled the spot with ease. In later months Mark Storr replaced the band's original guitarist, completing the line up that still blazes a trail through Hull's metal scene two years later.
Without a need to show off, a compulsive obsession to fit in, or craving other people's admiration, XIII make music according to their own rules. Their guitars roar, their drums pound, their bass thunders and their lyrics are darker than a back alley murder scene.
The content of their music is not the band's only strong point. Their live gigs are infused with an energy seldom seen in modern bands, without taking it too seriously. Most of all, the band just want to play music and have fun.
In March of 2009, the band released their first, self-produced 7 track CD, "Unlucky For Some", which has garnered a widely positive reception. And to add to the band's already formidable track record, they recently joined forces with indie label Death Certificate Records, and a new 5 track E.P was released. The 2nd E.P launch took place on the mighty Friday the 13th August the Self Titled E.P went down really successfully. This piece of work has even started to be sold worldwide on Itunes!
