Formed in Newcastle (UK) in late 2008, INSYLUM's members were brought together by a random series of events whereby founding member/guitarist Dave "Pat" Patterson ( ex-Dressed To Kill/ Binary) literally approached metal fans on the street, asking if they played an instrument and wanted to be in a band!!! This unorthadox method led him to find a second guitarist in Sunny Singh and a bass player in Paul Rumney. Together with ex-Binary/ Hellbastard/ Sabbatica bandmate/drummer Martin "Hairy" Harrison they began writing whilst still searching for a vocalist to complete the line-up. The brutality of the music INSYLUM were creating needed an equally brutal singer to do the songs justice and it would take a further six months of searching before they finally found the ideal candidate in ex-Nails Of Christ and Faceshredder vocalist Craig Relf in early 2009.
With the line-up now complete INSYLUM set about the north east live circuit and rapidly gained a significant and loyal fanbase with their own brutal-groove metal sound which immediately set them apart in a live scene saturated with grindcore bands trying to be the next Killswitch Engage. So much so that just a few months later, INSYLUM reached the semi-finals of the nationwide "Live & Unsigned" competition out of hundreds of entrants.
Fired-up by this impressive achievement, INSYLUM entered Landscape Studios to record their first e.p entitled- "The Abyss" with producer Rich Doney (Enter Shikari/ The Enemy/ Arctic Monkeys) and recieved critical acclaim from various media publications. INSYLUM then went on to WIN a battle of the bands competition in the north east of the UK and have since continued to storm the uk live scene, in association with Terrorizer magazines "Grindhouse" tours, with bludgeoning shows that guarantee to infect the audience and get under the skin of even the most obstinate listener. At the same time INSYLUM are currently being promoted on Roadrunner Records web-site aswell as on numerous radio stations. September 2010 saw the replacement of Martin Harrison with ex-Panic Cell drummer/songwriter Lee Turner- a welcome addition whose experience of extensive touring with the likes of Disturbed, Staind and Drowning Pool will help guide INSYLUM to the next level and beyond!!!
