Awake By Design are a modern heavy rock band formed in the South West, UK in late November 2007. Created by Adrian Powell (vocals,) and ex-guitarist Toby Stewart after the split from a previous band.

They began by steering away from the extreme metal scene and venturing into a revamp of more traditional rock/ metal genres . The idea was simple, create a unique band that offers catchy vocal and guitar melodies as well as having Classical, Synthpop and 80’s Rock elements. After a number of months and many auditions a lineup was formed with Jon Black on drums and Rob George on Bass.

Awake By Design started gigging and recording their first demo featuring the tracks ‘A Scarlet Coming’, ‘Elusive Years’ and ‘Failures Drown’. This gained ample praise from radio and fans. In 2008 Awake By Design began work on their debut album at Priory Recording Studios in Birmingham. They found a stable second guitarist, Callum Downing, and completed the album in mid 2008 and sent the album to be mixed and mastered. During this time they auditioned keyboardist Nik Sinnett and this squared the band off as a six piece.

In early 2009 they self released their debut ‘Sentiment’ which was recorded by Greg Chandler (Esoteric) and produced by Karl Groom (DragonForce, Threshold). The debut gained praise worldwide from fans, Magazines and radio. During this time a new bassist Dave Favill was brought in adding a much needed dexterity to the bands sound. The band continued gigging relentlessly.

2010 started a difficult phase for the band through the departure of guitarist Toby Stewart and drummer Jon Black. This immobilised the band for a number of months while they auditioned new drummers and guitarists. Finally things started gaining momentum; after auditioning dozens of outstanding (and not so outstanding) drummers 17 year old Danny Dukes was given the part. Shortly after this guitarist Luke Smith completed the lineup. With the new lineup secured and rehearsed Awake By Design re-emerged as a stronger, sharper force. They continued to play bigger shows with larger acts such as Apocalyptica, Diamondhead etc and gaining praise all round. Intransigent they continue their journey to captivate the rock / metal genre.
