Autumn of August is a crucible of influences that have come together to create a sound that is revolutionary in its own right, with each member contributing in his own way differently every time.

AoA came together from different backgrounds with all the members previously playing in other bands. White, Marnus and Jean grew up together, playing in a 3-piece punk band. Ross in turn played for Acherontia and also sessioned for Slagyster before the band split up. FranZ played for two different metal/hard rock bands over the past few years.

The band was officially formed and named in the beginning of May 2009 and is currently based in Stellenbosch, South Africa. The end of May saw Autumn of August on stage for the first time when they performed at R.O.A.R in Cape Town, and the band has since played almost 30 shows in the past year. Some stages that AoA is familiar with are Mercury Live and Lounge, Muzone Aandklas (Stellenbosch), R.O.A.R. and Hidden Cellar. AoA takes pride in being approached to play at some festivals including Maties JoolFest on Die Braak in Stellenbosch, Vlakvarkgat Rock Fest and CrankFest .

AoA has recently finished their debut EP, "Leaves From a Heart Shaped Tree", which was released in May 2010. AoA is currently writing their first full length album; along with a script for the music video of their single I am gone.

Influences from each of AoA's members can be heard in the structure and melody of the songs, as well as lyrics that will be kind on every ear. AoA does not want to label and restrict themselves by a specific genre, but would like their music to grow, and develop as the seasons of life change. AoA finds pride in combining all these elements to deliver a powerful and energetic live performance. AoA offers elements of emotional lyrics, melodic but strong breakdowns, as well as some form of complexity for more technical listeners. Autumn of August wants to spread the message of life.
