Orpheus have already gained a small measure of notoriety for their Iron Maiden influence which is one which can swiftly be heard. However acceding to what has been the wish of a number of female fronted bands I’ve met I listened to this album on its own merits rather than gender pigeonholing.

It is apparent as early on as Track #2 Constructing that Orpheus have wisely invested the time ensuring that this album has a well polished feel with the good guitar work of Kristian and Sivert underlying the strong vocals of Ingid being one of the finer points.

On the negative side however while influencing yourself on Iron Maiden is in itself no bad thing for a significant part of the album Orpheus unfortunately fall into the trap of failing to forge their own identifying sound. It is only with Peepin’ Tom and Repay standing out as tracks that left me thinking I hadn’t heard them before.

All-in-all not a bad album but frustrates by failing to break free of its self-made mould whenever it threatens to do so. Reviewers suggestion – if you don’t already have them raid the Iron Maiden back catalogue and buy either Powerslave or Number of the Beast if this style of music is to your liking.
