Stream of Passion - Darker Days
Stream of Passion are Marcela Bovio (Vocals & Electric Violin), Johan Van Stratum (Bass), Martijn Peters (Drums), Jeffrey Revet (Keyboards), Eric Hazebroek (Guitar) and Stephen Schultz (Guitar). Their latest offering of Darker Days as early on as the opening track of ‘Lost’ bears the hallmarks of their earlier albums such as The Flame Within with the ever-familiar stylings of Marcela’s Electric Violin and Jeffrey’s versatile keyboard skills at work. However, it is here that the comparison ends as the distinctly heavier sound which was the promise of Stream of Passion in the weeks leading up to the albums release swiftly manifests and remains in effect throughout the album.
It seems to have become almost obligatory for album reviewers to reference influences and for me there seems to be an underlying classical feel at work here, perhaps most notably in ‘Nada Lo Ve’ which features Marcela’s vocals to the sole accompaniment of keyboard backing.
All in all Darker Days is a clear sign that Stream of Passion are well on their way to forging their own musical identity post Arjen Lucassen. The album is available to purchase here : http://www.streamofpassion.com/
